Women Cross DMZ

Women Cross DMZ (WCDMZ) is a nonprofit organization mobilizing women internationally to advocate for peace in Korea. They are the primary sponsors of the Korea Peace Now! campaign. They advocate for a formal end to the Korean War in the form of a peace agreement, demilitarization and denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, an end to the tariffs and travel ban imposed on North Korea, and involvement of women at all stages of the peace process.

The organization was founded in 2014 by Christine Ahn, a Korean-American peace activist. According to a Pressenza article, Ahn was recently barred from entering South Korea, likely due to her activism.

It’s time to move forward and finally bring closure to seven decades of war. A brighter future for Koreans, Americans and the world depends on it.

The “DMZ” in the organization's name refers to the Demilitarized Zone that separates the two Koreas. In 2015, 30 women from 15 countries, led by notable feminist Gloria Steinem, crossed the Demilitarized Zone. According to their website, they walked alongside 10,000 women on the two sides of the Demilitarized Zone.

We have accomplished what no one said can be done, which is to be a trip for peace, for reconciliation, for human rights and a trip to which both governments agreed. We were able to be citizen diplomats.
